Britain's defense ministry is wading into the domestic political battle over the fate of the F-35 alternate engine, challenging the wisdom of the Obama administration's bid to kill the F136 engine program despite widespread support in Congress.

The United Kingdom has invested $2 billion in the Joint Strike Fighter's development and is the first foreign partner to commit to purchasing the aircraft.

The Army has sent Congress a new acquisition strategy for its massive fleet of tactical wheeled vehicles, advocating a "buy less, more often" approach and detailing its plans to "achieve the right mix of variants while modernizing to a 'scalable armor' fleet."

The 34-page report, dated June but only sent to Congress this week, states plainly that funding is a major factor in the Army's plans to buy less more often.
