The Dec. 4, 2019 Congressional Budget Office report looks at a law that "would renew through 2024 the administration's authority to expedite military sales to Jordan and to waive or reduce certain surcharges on sales of military equipment from Department of Defense stocks. That authority expired in February 2019."

In a Nov. 22, 2019 letter to Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith (D-WA) and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Elliot Engel (D-NY) raised concern regarding the Trump administration's attempt to exponentially increase contributions made by South Korea, and potentially Japan, to offset the cost of U.S. military forces in the region.
