Lost In Space
The Air Force's first and only Space Based Space Surveillance
satellite reached initial operational capability last month, but that may be as
far as the service ever gets with SBSS. Air Force Space Command spokeswoman
Auburn Davis told Inside the Air Force this week that SBSS full
operational capability is based on a four-satellite constellation. However, the
Air Force has not set aside funding to buy a second vehicle, much less the
third and fourth satellites. "Although fiscal constraints thus far have
precluded more SBSS satellites, we will continue to advocate for SBSS
capability," she said.
