DOD Reviewing CSIS Report Recommendation To Boost Amphibious Lift

Redistributing Marines around the Pacific will create four fully capable Marine Air-Ground Task Forces and will prove beneficial to the United States' relationship with Japan, but the current plan further spreads out personnel and goods and therefore requires more amphibious lift capability, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta wrote in a July 24 response to a recent report on the U.S. defense posture in the Pacific.
